July review

Sun, 08/01/2010 - 04:43

Here is a roundup of what's been happening at the main Centre for Learning & Performance Technologies (C4LPT) site in July.

2010 Reading List

I added over 20 articles and resources to my 2010 Reading list in July.  As you can see from the Wordle (above) created from the titles, the dominant themes were social media and change. Here are some of the key articles calling for change in one way or another that I have included.

State of Learning in the Workplace Today

I've updated my State of Learning in the Workplace Today piece to describe 10 factors for change in L&D (and referencing all the articles above) and also provided a (draft) model of how I believe L&D could be working more widlely to help individuals and teams - ie from a focus on training to performance consulting.

How to use social media in your job

One of the key features of the way forward will be helping others to become self-sufficient - where they are not already doing so.  The tools are already there and being exploited by many; others will need help understanding how they can be used effectively.   My guide which shows how social media can be used in your job or professional practice, is now available - by popular demand! - as a PDF to purchase.

Top 100 Tools for Learning 2010

At the time of writing, there have been 318 contributors to the Top 100 Tools for Learning list.  Have you shared your Top 10 yet?

Historius - social bookmarking ++

Thu, 07/15/2010 - 05:16

I just read about Historius - a social bookmarking tool - on The Next Web - and thought I would pass on the link.

Not ANOTHER social bookmarking tool, you are probably thinking!  But the Historius website explains more:

"Do you bookmark most interesting sites and articles? If not, is it because bookmarking a lot is too tedious? If yes, how often do you go back to your bookmarks and how easy is it to find things you're looking for?

historious makes bookmarking much easier by creating your very own, personalized search world. Add sites to historious (you can use our bookmarklet or browser extensions, if you want), and your customized search will be available to search within them. The next time you want to find that interesting article about the economy, just search in historious for "economy" and all the articles about economics you saved will appear. It's as simple as that!"

TheNextWeb's posting about Historius is captioned "the bookmarking tool I’ve been waiting for has finally been built" - so if you have drifted away from bookmarking, maybe this one is worth taking a look

Historius
