What are U.S. students looking for when it comes to educational technology?

1) Mobility

Almost one third of the high school students and a quarter of middle school students surveyed said they own a smart phone.

2) They want a “a truly interactive learning experience" or "online environment" complete with educational games, simulations, links, and of course the ability to download all of this onto their smart phones.

Technology is changing rapidly. Only a few years ago, few high school students used Facebook, owned a personal laptop, and smart phones weren't even around. Now students are carrying the web around in their pockets. Another survey showed that Americans aged 13 to 18 spend more than 72 hours a week using electronic media (Internet, cell phones, television, music, and video games). (see http://news.cnet.com/2100-1041_3-6141920.html).

What do you think? Are we meeting students demands? Are their demands valid and do they bring value to the educational process, or is it just “hype”?
